Sometimes you need to change a UDT when a project is well underway, whether it be for data collection or a device interface, or just to add another feature. Any tips or other things I should look up? That said, I have three projects where I'm forced to use Classic Step 7. I'm even willing to believe there is an easy way to program Classic Step7, but whatever it is, it's not obvious, and (if you're correct about CFC) different from how every other PLC is programmed.

OK, clearly, I've been traumatized, and I don't mean to take it out on you. Or issuing a "Rewire" command, in the case of M-bits, but you can't do it from the symbol table, you need to do it from Manager. The workarounds I know about for these problems all involve closing all editors and doing "Check Block Consistency" (then waiting a half hour) and changing the addressing from "Absolute" to "Symbolic", and sometimes back.

Then I need to remember all the functions and OBs I updated and download them, but they're hard to find because they're in one gigantic list in Simatic Manager because they don't support folders, and even if they did, there's no easy indication that a particular component is the same as what's on the PLC or not.
Simatic step 7 basic update#
Like, I'll add a field to a DB in classic, and downloading will severely mess up my process because I forgot to update every reference. I haven't been able to use CFC, myself (partially because of damn client requirements), but I cannot fathom otherwise how Classic can be considered easier than TIAPortal. PM if you want contact info, but no matter what, know who you'd call in case something goes haywire. Latest is v14, I use v13 SP1įinally, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that my company does on-site maintenance and troubleshooting rather frequently.
